SON HOLDS QMS MANAGEMENT REVIEW MEETING, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO QUALITY

 The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) successfully held its Quality Management System (QMS) Management Review Meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The meeting was conducted in strict adherence to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard, underscoring SON’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a robust and effective quality management system.

While the Director General/Chief Executive, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, was unavoidably absent due to other pressing official engagements, his dedication to quality was strongly conveyed through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, who represented him at the crucial session.

In his address delivered by Mr. Okafor, Dr. Okeke emphasized the paramount importance of a strong QMS in achieving SON’s mandate of ensuring the quality of products and services in Nigeria. He stated:

A well-functioning Quality Management System is not merely a certification; it is the bedrock upon which we build trust and confidence in the standards we uphold. This Management Review Meeting serves as a vital platform to critically assess our processes, identify areas for enhancement, and ultimately strengthen our ability to serve the Nigerian people with excellence. While I am unable to be with you in person today, my commitment to continuous improvement and the principles of ISO 9001:2015 remains absolute. The insights and outcomes of this meeting are crucial in guiding our strategic direction and ensuring that SON remains a leading force in quality assurance.”

The QMS Management Review Meeting provided a comprehensive platform for key stakeholders within SON to evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s quality management system. Discussions centered around several critical areas, including:

Audit Results: A thorough analysis of  internal  audit findings was conducted to identify areas of strength and potential non-conformities requiring corrective action.

Customer Feedback: The meeting addressed valuable feedback received from stakeholders and customers, recognizing its significance in driving improvements and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Process Performance: Detailed reviews of key organizational processes were undertaken to assess their efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with established quality objectives.

Improvement Opportunities: Participants actively engaged in brainstorming and identifying potential areas for innovation and enhancement within the QMS, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The successful conduct of this QMS Management Review Meeting underscores SON’s proactive approach to maintaining a responsive and adaptable quality management system. The outcomes of the discussions will be instrumental in shaping future strategies and initiatives aimed at further strengthening SON’s capacity to deliver on its mandate and contribute to the economic growth and well-being of Nigeria through standardization and quality assurance.
