SON Attains ‘Mature’ Status in National Monitoring and Evaluation Ranking

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has been recognized as a Mature agency in the latest Monitoring and Evaluation System Assessment conducted by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. This recognition places us among the top-performing federal agencies, reaffirming our commitment to accountability, efficiency, and evidence-based decision-making.

The assessment, which evaluated 48 federal agencies, focused on key areas such as strategic alignment with national policies, the existence of functional M&E units, and the effective utilization of evaluation data to improve service delivery. Our classification in the highest category demonstrates the strength of our monitoring and evaluation structures and the effectiveness of our internal processes.

This decision was based on specific criteria that measure an agency’s ability to establish and sustain a functional monitoring and evaluation system. These include structural and organisational alignment, human capacity for M&E, the existence of a costed work plan, routine monitoring activities, data management, and the use of evaluation results for decision-making. Our ability to meet these standards reflects the efficiency of our internal policies and operational frameworks.

This achievement reflects the strong leadership of our Director-General, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, whose commitment to institutional efficiency and compliance has strengthened our operational frameworks. Under his guidance, we have reinforced our monitoring and evaluation processes, ensuring that performance tracking and service delivery remain a top priority.

The Policy, Research, and Statistics (PRS) Department has also played a crucial role in this recognition. Through its dedication to data-driven decision-making and the implementation of structured evaluation frameworks, the department has contributed significantly to our ability to meet national monitoring and evaluation standards.

This milestone reaffirms our role as a leading regulatory body in Nigeria, ensuring standardization, quality assurance, and consumer protection across industries. The recognition highlights our ongoing efforts to improve internal processes, enhance service delivery, and align with national development goals.

As we continue to build on this success, our focus remains on sustaining and improving our monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Every department and staff member is encouraged to uphold our commitment to efficiency, accountability, and excellence in regulatory oversight.
