SON DG HONORED WITH DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN CRISIS AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT AT THE NIGERIA CLIMATE CONFERENCE
The Director General, Chief Executive of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, has been awarded an Honorary Doctoral Fellowship by the Emergency, Crisis & Disaster Risk Management Institute (ECRIM). The award was presented during the maiden edition of the Nigeria Climate & Emergency Conference.
Representing the SON DG at the event, Dr. Ganiyat Adebayo, Group Head of Environment Standards, delivered a goodwill message, expressing gratitude to the organizers for the recognition. Dr. Okeke emphasized the critical need for proactive measures to combat the climate crisis and mitigate associated risks.
“Resilience and adaptation are not just strategies; they are imperatives for safeguarding our environment, protecting lives and livelihoods, and ensuring sustainable development,” he said.
Dr. Okeke highlighted the pivotal role of standardization in addressing climate challenges, noting that SON actively develops and enforces guidelines to promote sustainable practices across various sectors, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and waste management. He reaffirmed SON’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and creating a safer, more sustainable Nigeria.
“SON remains a reliable partner in advancing Nigeria’s climate response goals and will continue to support initiatives that prioritize sustainability, environmental stewardship, and global best practices,” he added.
In response, Dr. Chuks Akawo, Director-General of ECRIM, commended Dr. Okeke for his dedication and leadership in steering SON toward achieving its mandate and for contributing significantly to Nigeria’s climate resilience and sustainability efforts.
