Engr. Yahya Ahmed Bukar is the Director, Standards Development Directorate, Standards Organisation of Nigeria.
Engr. Bukar holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Degree in metallurgical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1988, Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of Jos in 1996, and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Production/Industrial Engineering) from the Federal University of Technology Minna in 2007.
He joined the services of Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) as a Standards Engineer I in 1994 after a three-year stint as a Production Engineer with the Jos Steel Rolling Company, Jos from 1990.
Engr. Bukar’s activities include:
- Standardization activities – Has developed several Standards and participated in numerous Technical Committees. He is the current President of the ECOWAS Standards Harmonization Models (ECOSHAM).
- Administration – Headed State Offices across the country including Niger (2003-2011), Anambra (2012-2013), and Kano (2013- 2017), and at various times as Ports Inspector, Ports Supervisor, Ports Coordinator and Head of Ports and Borders from 2017-2021.
- Conformity assessment – He carried out inspection activities on industries (factories), seaports, Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, and shell and vessel plants within and outside the country including Norway, India, and China.
- ISO Quality management – As a Lead Auditor, he audited several companies in Nigeria.
He has undertaken several trainings both within and outside such as Volume/Flow Measurement by PTB of Germany, in Nairobi, Kenya (1997), Non-destructive testing technique (Ultrasound-level 2) in Niger Dock, Snake Island, Nigeria by IAEA (1998), and Basic pneumatic technology by Zeniten Consultants in Benin, Nigeria (2003), Force calibration and Testing in Beijing, China (2004); International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Management System courses such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health Safety Management System), ISO 17025 (Laboratory System Quality Management), ISO 50001 (Energy Management system) and Halal Management System (OIC/SMIIC Standard), and Factory Inspection Certification course.
Engr. Yahya Bukar is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), A member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a member of the Nigerian Metallurgical Society, Charted Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, and an ISO Quality Management System Lead Auditor.
He has received many awards such as Director of National Youth Service Corp Merit award and Director General/Chief Executive’ of SON performance award, to mention but a few.
Engr. Bukar has attended several conferences and workshops both within and outside Nigeria where he has built and maintained a relationship network.
He loves sports and reading and is married with Children.
