Barrister James Zwawua is the Head of Legal Services at the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). He began his educational journey at St. Mary’s Primary School, North-Bank, Makurdi, Benue State in 1978, and proceeded to Government Teachers College, Makurdi, where he studied from 1979 to 1984. He later obtained his Law degree from the University of Jos between 1993 and 1999, and subsequently attended the Nigerian Law School, graduating in November 2000. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in January 2001.
Barr. Zwawua commenced his legal career in Makurdi with the law firm of Gordon Esa & Co., where he practiced from 2001 to 2005. He later joined the Benue State Ministry of Justice as a State Counsel in 2005. In 2008, he transitioned to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, where he initially served as the Head of the Legal Desk in Lagos, overseeing all legal operations within the state.
In 2023, he was appointed State Coordinator of the Benue State Office and was subsequently redeployed to Abuja in 2024. On March 1, 2025, he was appointed Head of Legal Services at SON.
Barr. James Zwawua is a dedicated legal professional with a strong background in both public and corporate legal practice. He is married and blessed with four children.
