On Friday, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) awarded its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certification to 4 manufacturing companies in Kogi state.
In his speech at the presentation held in Lokoja, the Director-General/ Chief Executive of SON, Mallam Farouk A. Salim, represented by the SON Kogi State Coordinator, Engr. Olowu Alex J. Daudu said that MANCAP, introduced by SON in 2006, is a mandatory product certification scheme to ensure that locally manufactured products meet the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS).
The Director General disclosed that the issuance of the award was a culmination of a series of regulatory inspections conducted by SON, including production facility tours, online sample collection, on spot analysis of samples collected during inspection to check compliance with SON standards.

He explained that the MANCAP certification scheme is part of the Organisation’s effort to promote consumers’ confidence and the global competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria products through standardisation and quality assurance.
The SON helmsman noted that the MANCAP certification was essential in propelling industrial growth. While commending the awardees for ensuring that their products were certified, he urged all stakeholders yet to key into the MANCAP scheme of SON to avail themselves of the opportunity to certify their products through the program.
Explaining “that in a short time, any product that is not certified will not be allowed to be sold in the Nigerian market, and those already in the market that do not have the MANCAP logo shall be withdrawn.”
The State Coordinator, on behalf of the Director General and the Director, SON North Central Directorate, Mr. Sale A. Babaji, congratulated the awardees.
The companies awarded the MANCAP certification are Unicane Industries Limited, Mewobi Nigeria Limited, Famzz Golden Grain, and Kumxy Crunchien Nigeria Limited.
Unicane Industries Limited produces Ethanol, Mewobi Nigeria Limited manufactures Concrete poles, Famzz Golden Grain produces rice, and Kumxy Crunchien Nigeria. Limited produce groundnut crunches known as Kulli-Kulli.
