CORPORATE AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT
OVERVIEW & MANDATE
The Corporate Affairs Department, headed by the Director, Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Talatu Ethan, serves as the official communications and stakeholder engagement arm of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). It is dedicated to advancing the Organisation’s vision: “To improve life through standardization and quality assurance.”
The department ensures that SON’s mission to promote consumer confidence and enhance the global competitiveness of Nigerian products is effectively communicated both internally and externally.
QUALITY OBJECTIVES OF THE CORPORATE AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT
- To communicate SON’s role and relevance to stakeholders’ manufacturers, importers, dealers, market associations, and consumers through mass and social media.
- To promote SON as a business facilitator.
- To embed SON in the consciousness of the average Nigerian as a promoter of quality products, services, and consumer welfare.
- To act as an intermediary between SON and diplomatic missions.
CORE FUNCTIONS
The department performs several essential roles, including:
Strategic Communications & Media Relations: Develops and disseminates SON’s messages through press releases, social media, and media engagements to uphold the Organisation’s public image.
Protocol & Event Management: Coordinates official visits, stakeholder events, and high-level engagements, ensuring alignment with diplomatic and organisational standards.
Publications & Reporting: Produces SON branded materials including annual reports, newsletters, brochures and curate’s institutional archives and documentation.
Internal Collaboration: Supports SON’s departments and units with communication services, briefing materials, and stakeholder feedback management.
DEPARTMENTAL STRUCTURE
- Protocol Division
The Protocol Division, headed by Mrs. Lucy E. Ogeh, is responsible for the efficient coordination of official events and protocol activities within and outside the Organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
* Organising and managing official SON events, meetings, and courtesy visits.
* Liaising with institutions such as the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassies, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
* Overseeing visa facilitation, ticketing, and passport processing in collaboration with approved travel vendors.
- Media Division
The Media Division, headed by Mrs. Vivian C. Ugwu, manages SON’s interface with the media and general public. It serves as the Organisation’s primary channel for public communication and media relations.
Core functions include:
* Coordinating press conferences, interviews, and media briefings.
* Managing SON’s social and traditional media presence.
* Monitoring and analysing media coverage to inform communication strategy.
* Responding to media inquiries and facilitating accurate reporting on SON’s activities.
- Publication and Reporting Division
This Division, headed by Ms. Tasallah Isabella Manga, is responsible for the development, production, and dissemination of SON’s official publications and informational materials. It plays a key role in institutional documentation and public enlightenment.
Its functions include:
* Producing print and audio-visual materials that highlight SON’s policies, programmes, and initiatives.
* Coordinating the publication of the Director General’s Monthly Newsletter and SON’s Annual Reports.
* Archiving major institutional events and milestones.
* Monitoring and evaluating nationwide media reports and press coverage of SON’s operations.
* Enhancing SON’s brand visibility.
