It was indeed a grand finale and Mother of all celebrations as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)’s marked the golden jubilee in a grand style, full of pageantry in Kano.
In his welcome remarks, the Director General and Chief Executive, Mallam Farouk Salim, said he was proud to be celebrating this event in Kano and thanked the Industries and the people for their openness and acceptability of the people from all over.
Mallam Salim said SON is there to ensure people realize the values set by the Industries which have become the biggest employers of labour, which helps reduce the level of insecurity.
He said SON being the heart of the industry, is purposely ensuring that “Made in Nigeria” products are not just accepted only within the Country but across the globe.
He thanked the State Government for their generosity in providing SON with one of its most prominent landed properties in the entire country and as well as being one of the states that had not attacked SON Officials while engaging in enforcement activities.
The Director General credited SON with establishing the Halal Institute, a Training Center, and a Laboratory, stating that these are the same facilities provided in Lagos. He listed this as one of his most significant achievements.
According to the SON Chief Executive, with the established Training center, the industry can leverage the center by having their Staff train on the various ISO Systems training to improve their activities.
He assured the Governor of Kano State of SON’s willingness to train the employees of the State Government and the Kano Consumer Protection Agency at a subsidized rate.
He stressed that SON will not allow the import of substandard products and seeks the collaboration of all to protect the Manufacturing sector.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by the Honorable Commissioner of Commerce, Barr. Ibrahim Mukhtar thanked SON for ensuring that the industries are up to compliance and assured of the State’s continuous support to see sustainable growth of Industries.
In a goodwill message presented by the Kano State chapter of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr. Mohammed Bello reeled out the collaborative efforts that have been going on between SON and the MAN on Calibration, Certification of products, Consumer protection through consumer interface and Standardization practices amongst others.
Other goodwill messages were presented by the representatives of the Nigerian Customs Services, Kano State Consumer Protection Agency, Gerawa Rice, Amasco Lubricant, Umza Rice, and MC Plastics, amongst others.
The 3- day event kicked off with a visit to Mamuda Group of Companies, a leading multi-manufacturing industry that comprises many strategic business units, which includes Tannery, Beverages, Agro-allied section, Foods, and a Power Plant.
While an exclusive Dinner for Captains of Industries in Kano ended the SON @50 Anniversary celebrations.
