Staff of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) have been tasked to ensure continual improvements in service delivery, maintenance of assets and personal development in tune with standards as a continuum, internationally.
The Director General, Osita Aboloma Esq. threw the challenge while addressing staff of the Bauchi State office in continuation of his visit to SON Offices and projects.
He urged them to continue to be good ambassadors of SON while commending the leadership as being well organised.
The SON Chief Executive assured the staff that the office space challenge being experienced would be short-lived, as the permanent office complex for the Regional and State Offices should be completed before the end of the year with provisions for a befitting training/conference hall and other amenities.
These according to him would provide a more conducive work environment and promote more efficient and effective service delivery to Stakeholders in Bauchi State and the North East zone in general.
Mr. Aboloma assured of increase in the staffing level on completion of the permanent Regional/State office complex to provide succor to the challenges of Quality Assurance being faced in the North East region. He promised that the temporary staff will get first consideration in the recruitment process.
Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator, Engr. Hauwa Husseini disclosed that the Bauchi State Office was established in 2006 to cover Bauchi and Gombe States before the establishment of the latter.
She applauded the Director General’s visit as first of it’s type since the establishment of the Bauchi State office and thanked him for his dynamic and visionary leadership style of inclusiveness and mentorship.
Mrs. Husseini enumerated other challenges of the Bauchi State Office to include;
· Trainings, most especially on ISO Quality Management System (QMS) Standard
· Need for a motorcycle for mail dispatch
· On the spot testing kits for food products and a sandcrete block testing machine.
· Photocopier, Desktop Computers and Printers
· Generating Set
Responding, the SON Chief Executive directed the immediate supply of a generator and a motorcycle for dispatch.
He disclosed that a training on ISO QMS had already been approved for Plateau and Bauchi State offices staff while the ongoing procurement process has made provisions for Photocopier, Computers and Printers.
The DG and entourage proceeded to the site of the ongoing permanent Regional/State Office complex were they were conducted round by the Contractor and the Head, Construction Management, Engr. Paul Oke who stated that the first phase of the construction work had reached 90% completion.
The Contractor assured that the job is due for final completion and handover before the end of 2019.
The Director-General was accompanied on the trip by his Technical Assistant, Mr. Mark Dakhling, Regional Coordinator North-Central, Mr. Charles Nwagbara, SA to DG/ Head Public Relations, Mr. Adebola Fashina, Head Construction Management, Engr. Paul Oke and the SA to DG/Head, Protocol, Mr. Richard Arinze.
