The need for players in the downstream oil and gas sectors to subscribe to the ISO integrated management system (IMS) certification has been reiterated by the Director General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Aboloma. This he said was in view of the intricacies associated with the sector and the environmental and safety challenges confronting it.

He stated this at the presentation of integrated management systems certificate to OVH Energy Marketing Ltd., in Lagos through Mrs. Elsie Ofili, SON Deputy Director, Management Systems Certification, who represented him.

The IMS according to him, consists of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and the Occupational, Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSAS 18001: 2007) Standards.

Mr. Aboloma stated that an efficiently functioning oil and gas sector is a necessary condition for the growth of the Nigerian economy and urged key players to embrace international best practices in their processes and operations to guarantee efficiency in the downstream sector. He commended the company for its consistency in demonstrating conformance to the integrated management systems standards.

“It is heartwarming that you have taken steps to transit to the latest editions of the quality and environmental management systems standards ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 14001:2015 respectively. I am pleased to inform you that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has now published the Occupational and Safety Management Systems Standards -ISO 45001-2018 on which your recertification will be based, he said”.

The SON helms man called on all players in the oil and gas industry to emulate OVH Energy Ltd. in subscribing to IMC certification for competitiveness, international best practices and demonstration of good corporate social responsibility.

According to him, the benefits of the optimization of these multiple quality Management systems in an integrated platform guarantees increased efficiency, profitability and reduced operational costs which invariably will boost performance, employee safety and customer satisfaction.

In his acceptance speech, the Chief Executive Officer, OVH Energy Marketing Ltd., Mr. Huub Stockman gave a thumbs up to SON for partnering with the company since 2006 to bring it to an optimal level of performance. The thoroughness and professionalism displayed in the audit exercises as well resolution of non-conformances through corrective actions was commendable, he said.

Also present at the presentation ceremony was the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, OVH, Mrs. Kolaposi Williams along with SON Auditors, namely Engr. Gbenga Awobote,  Head, Measurement and Evaluation, MSC; Mrs. Tessy Ojomo, Group Head, Other Standards; Mr. Folayan Omoniyi, Leader of the SON audit team to OVH, Mr. Abah Gabriel  and Messrs. Orekoya Bolanle and Amina Haliru.
